Course Description
Course will review the anatomy of the pars plana, describe the proper pre-operative studies (biometry, exam, lens choice, etc), and examine multiple clinical scenarios for a pars plana anterior vitreous approach to lens-based problems ("middle segment surgery"). Course will also describe future research goals in this budding field comprised of both anterior segment and posterior segment surgeons.

Educational Objective
I want the learner to understand what is necessary for a single surgeon to successfully address lens-based problems through a pars plana approach. This will be done through a consensus between anterior segment and posterior segment surgeons on the topics of proper pre-operative studies (biometry, exam, lens choice, etc) and intraoperative surgical techniques. Hence the name, Middle Segment Surgery.
