The ASCRS Foundation is excited to release a
new video series featuring the 2020 Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grantee Cohort.
The
Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grant was created to inspire young eye surgeons to become involved with global eyecare on a long-term basis. The grant affords the opportunity to participate in health care systems, including teaching institutions
and community programs, in developing countries. Working with the ASCRS Foundation and its global partners, recipients will develop a customized plan that provides the opportunity to learn the intricacies behind global eyecare efforts and to participate first-hand.

2021 GRANT APPLICATION NOW OPEN
The ASCRS Foundation is excited to announce applications are now open for the 2021 Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grant. The application period is
September 21, 2020 - November 16, 2020 (closing at 5pm Eastern), and is open to ASCRS members who are third-year residents, fellows, or members in their first five years of practice.
Given the current global pandemic and the restrictions on travel, the format for this grant cycle has changed. The grant will provide
up to $5,000 in funding for grantees to initiate a global service project in 2021 from home, with the opportunity to travel when it is safe and feasible – most likely by December 2022. Committee members will help grantees develop virtual projects with one
of our partners, including Orbis, Seva, HCP and Global Sight Alliance, along with the Fred Hollows Foundation. We welcome your creativity and fresh ideas. Here are some suggestions for virtual projects:
- Mentor residents virtually, live or recorded in wet labs, surgery and/or clinic
- Assist with medical and surgical sub-specialty training
- Develop content and quizzes for online courses
- Design residency curriculum development at international teaching institutions
- Develop international training programs for ophthalmic assistants, nurses, instrument technicians, refractionists, orthoptists or other personnel
- Work on clinical research projects with physicians abroad
- Participate virtually in clinical trials of Articifical Intelligence
- Engineer or conduct trials on new instruments or equiment that would be useful in a developing country.
