The ASCRS Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2021 Young Eye Surgeon International Service Grant. The grant’s purpose is to inspire young eye surgeons to become involved with global eyecare on a long-term basis and affords the opportunity for the grantees to participate in health care systems, including teaching institutions and community programs, in developing countries. Working with the ASCRS Foundation and its international partners, recipients develop a customized plan that enables a young eye surgeon to learn first-hand the intricacies behind global eyecare efforts.
This year's ASCRS Foundation grant will provide funding for grantees to initiate a global service project in 2021 at home, with the opportunity to travel when safe and feasible in 2022. The ASCRS Foundation would like to thank the Grant Review Committee for the substantial effort involved in selecting the cohort, and for helping craft experiences designed to inspire global volunteer service.
The ASCRS Foundation and the society’s membership are active volunteers and program leaders in the effort to address global cataract blindness. This group of global changemakers will undoubtedly make a difference in communities around the world.
