ASCRS Foundation: What is your mission?

ZEISS: ZEISS Medical Technology’s mission is to provide innovative technology solutions that enable healthcare professionals worldwide to improve the lives of their patients in ophthalmology, microsurgery and other medical growth sectors. We advance the standard of care across medicine with our proven medical technology and application competence. Together with our colleagues at sites all over the world, we work to achieve this mission every day.

ASCRS Foundation: Can you offer your perspective on how your mission and the ASCRS Foundation’s mission intersect?

ZEISS: Corporate responsibility is of key importance and has a tradition at ZEISS that spans over 130 years. The aim of ZEISS Medical Technology’s social activities is to address preventable blindness and visual impairments. ZEISS Medical Technology focuses much of its social commitment on selected, large-scale projects carried out in collaboration with international organizations such as the ASCRS Foundation. ZEISS and the ASCRS Foundation both strive to make modern medical treatment accessible to as many people as possible.

ASCRS Foundation: How do you hope your gift will impact ophthalmology via our mission to provide physician education and humanitarian eyecare to those in need?

ZEISS: ZEISS places an emphasis on its commitment to corporate responsibility. For many years ZEISS supports initiatives worldwide that fight avoidable blindness. This partnership with organizations like the Foundation allows ZEISS to make a difference by impacting both the clinical and educational needs of underserved countries. To support this aim, ZEISS donates products, but also offers training and support to local physicians so that they can diagnose and treat their patients in their home clinics and practices reliably using up-to-date techniques.

ASCRS Foundation: Is there anything else you would like to share?

ZEISS: As a company of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, responsible action is a top priority for ZEISS, and is a contributing factor to its long-term success – whether regarding its employees, its social engagement, the environment, or integrity and compliance.

ASCRS Foundation: We are grateful for ZEISS’ support of the ASCRS Foundation. Their long-time commitment to our mission has made a tremendous impact.
